fall pretties for the home and table

This weekend we finally saw a little relief from 90 degree temps and, I must say, it was so nice to be able to play outside without the bugs eating us alive and then snuggle under cozy throw blankets and watch movies as a family.  Time to officially say goodbye to summer as we close our pool and I try really, really hard not to grab my Christmas lights out of storage!  Here are a few pretties I'm loving lately - lots of texture, brass, bamboo, tortoise and a little animal print for good measure to cozy up the house for the change in the season:

I've been OBSESSED with these antelope pillows for the chairs in my living room, but their price tag makes me choke.  I found some much more affordable options on Etsy and over at Plantation

I love the simplicity and size of this round mirror from Target

These Wilton trays from Serena and Lily are a great way to add some texture to a coffee or dining table.

These crystal low ball glasses are heavy and substantial enough for the hubby's whiskey but chic enough for my cocktail tray.

I love a myrtle topiary, even if I have a bad habit of murdering them shortly after spending a small fortune on them. Still on the hunt for the perfect fake.

This brown sugar and bourbon candle is HEAVEN.

Dial up the cozy factor with this fabulous pom pom throw.

I love the entire Dauville line, but this sleek, gold rimmed pitcher is on my radar for Thanksgiving lately.

I'm thinking my kitchen counter needs this adorable framed fox print from High Street Market.

The only thing I love more than blue and white everything is tortoise everything.  This umbrella holder from Ballard Designs is killing me softly.

Thinking of updating some of my favorite family photos with these chic bamboo picture frames.

Love the shape and petite size of this gold hexagon platter - it would look amazing for serving drinks or displaying my favorite bottles of perfume.

Still obsessed with this brass fox door knocker.

Looking forward to this read, as much for the fact that I love everything at Food 52 as for my need to simplify my weekly meal plan.

summer vibes

Just when I finally decide to take the plunge and repaint my black exterior doors and shutters NAVY BLUE, I end up falling in love with black and white all over again for summer.  You just can't beat the combination for summer, especially when paired with lots of seagrass, bamboo and fresh greenery.  Here are a few pretties that are heavy on my radar lately:

Picnic basket / Bamboo flatware set / Gordian weave ebony pillow / Avalon daybed / Rope Bottle Opener / Book / Topiary / Anchor door knocker / Seagrass tray / Striped cocktail tray

How chic is this black and white striped picnic basket from Mark and Graham?!  I'd be the envy of every mother at the park with this beauty!

This 20-piece bamboo-style flatware service from Horchow is perfect for outdoor entertaining and you can't beat the price for four place settings!!

This embroidered knot pillow by etsy favorite Arianna Belle is just the right nautical touch without going overboard.  LOVE.

The Avalon daybed from Serena and Lily is the stuff that summer daydreams are made of.  Literally.

A fabulous brass rope bottle opener from my favorite online shop, High Street Market, adds elegance to any bar, picnic or barbeque!

Hamptons Entertaining is seriously the most inspirational tome for spring and summer get togethers.  It's seriously my new favorite!

I can never get enough myrtle topiary (even though they don't last very long at my house).

A brass anchor door knocker makes for quite a fabulous first impression to your home.

You can never have too many seagrass serving trays for coraling drinks, appetizers or even condiments.

This black and white canopy striped cocktail tray with gold detailing takes your summer barbeque to a  WHOLE. NEW. LEVEL.

obsessed: cameron kimber

I feel like I'm on my deathbed.  The sinus infection/head congestion I've been battling the last week or so has finally gotten the upper hand and between that and a two year old energizer bunny who is stuck in the house on this rainy day, I am officially done.  Baby girl is napping, giving me a break from rainy day toddler activities and so I'm doing what any sickie would do with a little downtime: swooning over some serious design eye candy!  My obsession with Australian interior designer Cameron Kimber began when I first laid eyes on his dreamy blue and white bedroom and adjoining sitting area that's been all over blog land and Pinterest for a while.  If you haven't seen it yet, feast your eyes:

Blue and white is the perfect color combination for a bedroom; combined with bold pops of black, elegant bedding and crisp white bedding, I can totally see myself resting up (and consequently, never leaving!) this gorgeous room:

The adjoining sitting room is just as chic:

White beadboard walls, seagrass carpet and antique paintings in gilt frames are to die for in Kimber's own home, a fabulous example of how to do all-white the right way:

Green and blue have to be my second favorite color pairing - so fresh and crisp, no?

I adore everything about this little dining space - the grass cloth walls, the antique table and chairs and the oversize painting are so simple but so, so stunning:

I love a layered room - pattern, color and texture mixed with antiques are, for me, the epitome of design perfection and Kimber nails it in this bedroom niche.  Is this not amazing??

To see more of Kimber's work, visit his portfolio here.  It'll make your next rainy day!

I promise to be back with some exciting posts soon, but in the meantime, I hope you all stay well!

loving lately: winter whites

My idea of starting the new year off with a "clean slate" is by swathing everything in creamy white paint and loading up on tons of texture.  With the little bit of snow we got over the weekend popping through my windows, my whole house seems whiter and brighter and I'm loving it!  The only thing left to do is to curl up with a gorgeous faux fur throw, a stack of shelter magazines and a cup of tea....but, since that is the least likely thing to happen for this momma, instead, here are a few goodies I'm loving lately that fit my wintery mood.  And on another note, have you guys checked out Ballard Designs lately?   Holy hell, they've got some amazing new items, including a stunning, affordable version of the super pricey Stark Antelope rug, a tortoise umbrella holder and the most gorgeous dining chair (see them all below).  SO GOOD!!

Beachcomber high rectangular basket / Ruched faux fur throw / Jill double-gourd lamp set in talc /

Modern carrara marble and brass serving tray / Antelope hand tufted rug / Haynes dining chair

Diptyque Baies scented candle / Tortoise umbrella stand / Lander brass sconce

Brass fish bottle opener

How do you love to cozy up for the winter?

a long-awaited mini makeover

If you guys follow me on Instagram you know that Christmas came a little early for me in the form of four glorious rolls of the most gorgeous grass cloth wallpaper for my dining room!  I've had my heart set on hanging grass cloth since we moved in almost six years ago, but with every decision for my own house, I went back and forth for a while (it's so expensive; will it look okay?) I finally bit the bullet and ordered a few rolls when Sherwin Williams had a huge sale on wall paper last month and I've never been more obsessive over something for the house before!

For those that asked on Instagram, this particular pattern is from the Grasscloth II book, #489-2332 and it's HEAVENLY!  It's getting hung professionally in January because I've never hung grass cloth and would prefer not to screw up my first attempt, so stay tuned for progress pictures in the New Year!  The only decision I have to make in the meantime is whether or not to paper the tray ceiling, as well.  The molding is so thick and beautiful I'm leaning toward papering everything so that it stands out.

This is definitely going to be a MINI makeover, not a complete overhaul - I'm keeping my chandelier, bamboo Roman blinds and white curtain panels.  I'm eventually going to sell the existing dining room set because it's super formal (we couldn't be less so) and also because it's cherry and looks super red against my espresso floors.  For now, I'm focuing on getting the paper hung, looking for a fabulous buffet (I'm OBSESSED with this one), accessorizing with my blue and white ginger jars and buying a large seagrass rug.  If anyone knows of any fabulous FAKE topiary that look realistic, PLEASE let me know!  I've spent a small fortune on the real ones only to have them die on me.  This is what I'm thinking for now:

There are a few stunning dining rooms I've been drooling over, all of which are papered in gorgeous, golden grass cloth similar to my own and which have all been providing a ton of inspiration:

I recently posted this one by Kelly McGuill and am still quite obsessed; the white trim looks so crisp and I actually love the fact that there is a lack of color, focusing instead on all the natural textures (and that buffet still has me swooning!!):

How amazing is this beauty by designer James Michael Howard?  The brass details, the wave molding and that geometric rug?  Be still my little heart....

Another lovely one by Kelly Robson; again, I love the texture from the jute rug and burlap-covered chairs, as well as the mix of seating:

Love the silver accents in this formal dining room:

This coastal-inspired dining room by Alice Lane is another favorite; I love how the oversize artwork and paneling compliment the paper:

I hope you're all having a wonderful Monday and are finishing up all your Christmas shopping!
