mother's day table + gift ideas

Mother's Day is right around the corner and this year, I'm ahead of the game for the first time in forever with gifts for my own momma and some of my closest friends already wrapped and ready to be given!  I'll be spending the day this year with my mom and my aunt, which is enough of a gift for me in itself, but if I could imagine the perfect present for them, I'd love to host a brunch with a beautiful table setting, lots of yummy food and a bloody Mary or mimosa (or two)!  There's such a bevy of beautiful accessories for the table out right now (I'm especially loving the entire new entertaining collection by Aerin at Williams Sonoma!) and the best part is that almost every one of the items I picked would make for a great gift idea, as well!  Here are some of my current favorites:

These blue and white floral napkins would be an amazing pop of color, paired with bamboo flatware and rattan chargers!

I need another white pitcher like I need a hole in the head, but this basketweave beauty is speaking right to my texture loving heart!

This blue and white swirl taper vase is so simple but so stunning.  Would be a show stopping centerpiece with white hydrangea.

Myrtle topiary are my obsession but they are next to impossible to find anywhere in North or South Carolina (Believe me, I've tried).  Here are a few sizes to choose from, if you want to try having one shipped; I think there's nothing more chic than a staggering of a few different sizes in the middle of the table!

I love my $4 water hyacinth chargers from Ikea, but I've got to say, I think the texture and design of these rattan chargers from Serena and Lily are definitely worth the splurge!

Mixing up drinkware is one of my favorite tricks when setting a table; these French wine glasses and woven tumblers (mine are from Home Goods) are a staple in my house and would make a great gift idea for the friend or momma who loves to entertain (or just set a beautiful table).

My oversize clam shell is one of my most favorite home decorative accessories ever; it would be a simple but beautiful centerpiece, filled with citrus.

It's no secret I love all things bamboo and this serving set just adds that little something extra special to the table (and would make for a fantastic gift!

books for everyone on your christmas list

Well, that was a hot blogging minute, wasn't it?  If the next two weeks fly as fast as the last month did for me, I'm in trouble, as I've still got quite a few gifts to cross off my list!  I had high hopes for sharing my Christmas decor today but the weather has been so crappy lately, making it impossible to get decent pictures, so instead, I thought I'd kick off the week with some gift ideas - books!!    Whenever I'm in a jam for gift ideas for someone, I try to think of things I would love to receive and, nine times out of ten, I end up going with a beautiful book.  Who doesn't love a gorgeous coffee table book or a delectable new cookbook?  I don't think you can go wrong.  There are a ton of new ones out lately that would make for a gorgeous gift (Mark D. Sikes' Beautiful and Ina Garten's Cooking for Jeffrey are among my latest favorites), so I rounded up a bunch here that I'm loving lately; you're sure to find something for that special someone on your list who is IMPOSSIBLE to shop for:

Beautiful - Mark D. Sikes / Beaches - Gray Malin / Domino

Cooking for Jeffrey - Ina Garten / Shake / The Southerner's Cookbook

Monograms for the Home / Meat.  Everything You Need to Know / A House in the Country

Cabinet of Natural Curiosities / A House by the Sea - Bunny Williams / The History of Surfing - Matt Warshaw

shopping small: three favorite online home boutiques

I love shopping small any chance I can get; sure, there are times when Amazon just can't be beat but nine times out of ten, I would much rather buy from a local or small business.  If you've been following along here for a while, you know I definitely have my favorite online home boutiques, as I tend to include items from the same shops over and over in design boards, gift guides and even sourcing for clients (because you can never have too much of a good thing).  Here are three of my favorite online home boutiques that I turn to time and time again for gifts, home accessories and entertaining; with Valentine's Day right around the corner, you'd be hard pressed NOT to find something amazing for your bestie, your momma or even yourself!

HIGH STREET MARKET

Whenever I'm in need for a gift for a friend or client this is usually the first place I stop.  The Philadelphia-based shop is chock full of beautiful vases, woven trays, serving pieces, barware, candles and small decorative accessories with a vintage, nautical feel.  I never stop by their site without buying something.  My favorite place for small but thoughtful, one-of-a-kind gift ideas at amazing price points.  Here are a few of my favorites:

Bamboo vase / Round woven serving trays / Leopard lumbar pillow / Fish bottle opener /

Framed racing boat / Iron anchor paperweight / Blue and white ginger jar / Brass fox door knocker

Marble and brass serving tray / Brass turtle shell dish / Volcano candle / Silver mint julep cup

White porcelain star vase

WAITING ON MARTHA

There is so much to love here that I had a hard time limiting it to one design board!  From bamboo picture frames, gold dipped serveware, copper measuring cups and gorgeous, vintage-inspired tortoise covered books to chalkboard nesting ramekins and petite personalized trinket dishes, I always end up finding something lovely, unique and interesting!  Here are some of my favorites:

Bamboo picture frames / Maritime soap dish / Framed sea fan / Gold pitcher / Copper measuring cups /

Gold ring dish / Designer vintage book set / Chalkboard nesting ramekins / Gold dipped spoons

Squeeze juicer / Tortoise shell bound books / Personlized petite plates

FURBISH

I read owner Jaime Meares' blog long before she ever opened her flagship boutique in Raleigh and I've loved the eclectic roundup of goodies she's offered ever since she opened up shop!  Blue and white and tortoise shell reign supreme for me (the ice bucket is one of my favorite entertaining pieces I own!) and are at the top of my list of goodies she offers.  Here are a few of my favorites:

Antigua lumbar pillow / Tortoise shell ice bucket / Blue swirl taper vases / Tortoise tray table /

Double happiness ginger jar / Mini Cabinet of Natural Curiosities / Raja blue tablecloth

Teil Duncan art / Greek key trim pillow / Blue and white bud vases

7 fab christmas gift ideas that won't break the bank

I had high hopes for posting a bunch of holiday gift guides but I've been so overwhelmed with trying to figure out what I'm getting my own family and friends that it's just not going to happen this year.  I think Christmas is the perfect time to get carried away wasting money on things that you normally would never buy someone just to have a gift to give, which is why I'm always freaking out over trying to find unique, meaningful items for everyone.  It's exhausting.  This year, I've decided to keep it simple and so, instead of gift guides I am posting some of my favorite items to give friends and family - some of these I've given time and time again.  Most are on sale right now and all of them are super affordable!

My Atlantis clam shell is my favorite decorative accessory, going on almost a decade now!  It's on sale right now over at ZGallerie and I think it would make an amazing gift for the home decor afficionado, lover of the beach or anyone who appreciates pretty things!  I've used mine to hold everything from fishing floats and pine cones to Christmas ornaments and, this year, clementines, and it makes an equally lovely statement on its own.  One of my favorite gifts to give (and get, of course!)

I love, love, LOVE a preserved boxwood wreath but they can be pretty pricey.  This 22 incher by Smith and Hawken stopped me in my tracks on a jaunt to Target a few weeks ago and at $45 you just can't beat the price OR the size! I hung mine by a navy and white striped grosgrain ribbon in my entry and it will be a welcome pop of color and interest once all the Christmas decorations are put away!  It also comes in a smaller size for $20 here.

A Boat, A Whale and a Walrus is one of the most beautiful cookbooks EVER; I included it in one of my holiday gift guides last year and it's become of one of my favorite gifts to give since!  The photos are absolutely gorgeous, the recipes delectable, but what I love most is that it reads like a story by chef and restauranteur Renee Erickson.  This is THE perfect gift for the hostess or cook in your family or circle of friends!

A tortoise ice bucket is my latest obsession for hosting during the holidays; I use it to chill wine or as a makeshift vase and it even looks chic on its own on a bar cart or tray.  I found mine at Furbish Studio; I've had it out on my kitchen counter in a little bar setup for the holidays and and it makes me giddy every time I look at it!

I don't think you can ever go wrong giving a beautiful coffee table book; whenever I'm in doubt as to what to get someone, nine times out of ten this is what I end up giving.  With Amazon Prime, you can have them delivered to your door in less than 48 hours, making this the perfect last-minute gift idea!

I love to give barware essentials because, let's face it, the holidays are all about celebrating and having fun with family and friends and, for most of us, that includes a cocktail or two!  Gold-rimmed stemless champagne flutes, a brass anchor bottle opener and Drunken Sailor coasters are lovely, witty and classic!

A set of beautiful, blue and white Chinese bud vases makes a great stocking stuffer or, pair it with a gardening or entertaining book for your loved one who enjoys having fresh blooms in the house.  I found mine at TJ Maxx, but Wisteria has a gorgeous set of four for $35 with an additional 25% off with code DECEMBER25.

What are some of your favorite gifts to give again and again??
