blue + white lumbar pillow love

Mark D. Sikes

I have the itch to change things up around here so bad.  I blame Instagram and the fact that I've been too exhausted / busy with my littles the last nine months to do anything more than a little zhushing of my corner built-ins, but change is good and so I'm going to start small with some new pillows for my living room.  First up is lumbar pillows for the two chairs.  I'm so excited to bring a different shade of blue and white to my linen pieces for the warmer months because, let's face it, there's no other color combination that screams summer.  As for my beloved Robert Allen pillows on my sofa now, I'm too attached to part with them so I'll be relocating them to the new guest room upstairs!

Etsy is always my first stop for budget-friendly pillows; I used to source fabric by the yard and then have my seamstress make them for me in year's past but, in the end, it actually ended up being more expensive and time consuming, so now it's Etsy all the way!   Spark Modern is always my first stop for pillows and, in this case, I didn't have to look any further as I'm obsessed with pretty much each and every one of the blue and white lumbar pillows.  Here are a few picks I'm loving lately.  Now to just narrow it down (I want them ALL!)

Happy Monday!

sarah bartholomew in southern living

When I first read that the home of Nashville-based interior decorator Sarah Bartholomew would be featured in the September issue of Southern Living, I started making extra trips to the mailbox to see when it would finally land in mine.  I've been a huge fan of Bartholomew's classic, all-American style, not to mention her love of blue and white as well as how effortlessly she mixes traditional and antique pieces with modern art and treasures so, it's no surprise I've been pouring over the issue since I got my paws on it over the weekend!  Equally impressive is the fact that she is momma to FOUR littles! Her beautiful home is testament to the fact that you don't have to sacrifice personal style when you have children!  From her blue and white color palette with pops of green, lots of texture, beautiful antiques, artwork and fabric, Monday morning eye candy doesn't get much better than this:

Here are my picks for getting a similar look:

Bamboo mirror / Beachcomber basket / Ginger jar / Woven Malawi chair / Leopard lumbar pillow

Topiary / Resin coral / Throw pillow / Soare charger / Embroidered napkin

Gourd lamp / Blake raffia coffee table / Bamboo flatware / Striped vase

Hope you're all off to a great start this weekend!

fab (blue + white) finds $50 or less

Our guest suite reno/addition is in full swing upstairs, which means that the rest of my house is completely upended to accommodate all the construction going on.  Since I'm heavy into nesting mode right now and can't really do anything about it, I've resorted to what any other 38 week pregnant woman would do when her pregnancy-induced insomnia strikes - SHOP!  Budget-friendly finds are always at the top of my list but especially now when I still have to finish the upstairs and then complete a nursery afterward, so each and every one of my finds in today's roundup is not only fabulous, but each is less than $50!  I also, rather subconsciously, rounded up every blue and white and natural textured decorative item I could find, so you're welcome!

This gorgeous blue and white striped Turkish towel is an end-of-summer staple and would make for a great transition into fall as a picnic blanket!

This porcelain sea urchin is the perfect addition to a coffee table, bookshelf or a stack of books.

I have this rope tassel brass bottle opener and love it!  It adds just the right nautical touch to a summer barbeque and looks equally fabulous perched on a bar cart!

A set of three blue and white porcelain bud vases are such an easy way to add color and interest to a table setting - these are lovely.

Capri Blue Volcano is one of my all-time favorite candle scents and the pop of blue from the jar is just as beautiful!

I'm obsessed with this textured glass pitcher with gold rim detailing and matching glasses - and the price will make you do a double take!

I got my hubby the larger size of this handmade ghost ship kite for his birthday and it's so pretty in person, it's more like a work of art!

This batik-inspired boho throw pillow is gorgeous - and so soft!  The price is so good, too!

A straw tote is the quintessential summer staple - they are perfect for running errands or toting towels and magazines to the pool or beach - but, I have to say, they look just as amazing hanging on a door during summer months, too!

I love tortoise shell as much as I love bamboo and rafia and this little beauty of a catchall is so chic and would make for a lovely hostess gift!

How chic are these navy tassel rafia placemats??  Perfect for end-of-summer get togethers!

The only thing I may love more than a beautiful brass door knocker is a monogrammed one!  These initial knockers are not only gorgeous, but would make a wonderful house warming gift!

Who doesn't love blue and white ginger jars?  This petite version is only $18!

How ADORABLE is this blue and white creamer set

My love for all things pineapple is a close second to my love for all things blue and white....these matches would be a lovely compliment to a candle as a gift and would look just as beautiful sitting on a coffee table or sink!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Happy Tuesday!  I hope you're all off to a great start this week!  I can't seem to get my head out of weekend mode, so I thought I'd make the delayed transition a little easier with some gorgeous eye candy from one of my favorite Instagram accounts - designer and artist William Rankin McLure IV. I've been obsessed with all of Williams's decorating (and redecorating) adventures in his Birmingham apartment, as well as all of the jaw dropping abstract artwork he seems to whip up overnight.  From painting his floors, his rug and even committing to red walls before reverting back to white again, every nook and cranny in his tiny apartment is effortlessly layered and incredibly chic.  It's just a matter of time before we see his work gracing the pages of Elle Decor and Architectural Digest!  In the meantime, feast your eyes on these snippets of his home, courtesy of his new website!

Here are my picks for getting a similar look:

Eloise rattan arm chair / Ginger jars / Giant clam shell / The Big Book of the Hamptons / Art /

Greek Key Trim pillow / Coral / Rug / Benjamin Moore Witching Hour / Large sea sponge

shopping small: three favorite online home boutiques

I love shopping small any chance I can get; sure, there are times when Amazon just can't be beat but nine times out of ten, I would much rather buy from a local or small business.  If you've been following along here for a while, you know I definitely have my favorite online home boutiques, as I tend to include items from the same shops over and over in design boards, gift guides and even sourcing for clients (because you can never have too much of a good thing).  Here are three of my favorite online home boutiques that I turn to time and time again for gifts, home accessories and entertaining; with Valentine's Day right around the corner, you'd be hard pressed NOT to find something amazing for your bestie, your momma or even yourself!

Whenever I'm in need for a gift for a friend or client this is usually the first place I stop.  The Philadelphia-based shop is chock full of beautiful vases, woven trays, serving pieces, barware, candles and small decorative accessories with a vintage, nautical feel.  I never stop by their site without buying something.  My favorite place for small but thoughtful, one-of-a-kind gift ideas at amazing price points.  Here are a few of my favorites:

Bamboo vase / Round woven serving trays / Leopard lumbar pillow / Fish bottle opener /

Framed racing boat / Iron anchor paperweight / Blue and white ginger jar / Brass fox door knocker

Marble and brass serving tray / Brass turtle shell dish / Volcano candle / Silver mint julep cup

White porcelain star vase

There is so much to love here that I had a hard time limiting it to one design board!  From bamboo picture frames, gold dipped serveware, copper measuring cups and gorgeous, vintage-inspired tortoise covered books to chalkboard nesting ramekins and petite personalized trinket dishes, I always end up finding something lovely, unique and interesting!  Here are some of my favorites:

Bamboo picture frames / Maritime soap dish / Framed sea fan / Gold pitcher / Copper measuring cups /

Gold ring dish / Designer vintage book set / Chalkboard nesting ramekins / Gold dipped spoons

Squeeze juicer / Tortoise shell bound books / Personlized petite plates

I read owner Jaime Meares' blog long before she ever opened her flagship boutique in Raleigh and I've loved the eclectic roundup of goodies she's offered ever since she opened up shop!  Blue and white and tortoise shell reign supreme for me (the ice bucket is one of my favorite entertaining pieces I own!) and are at the top of my list of goodies she offers.  Here are a few of my favorites:

Antigua lumbar pillow / Tortoise shell ice bucket / Blue swirl taper vases / Tortoise tray table /

Double happiness ginger jar / Mini Cabinet of Natural Curiosities / Raja blue tablecloth

Teil Duncan art / Greek key trim pillow / Blue and white bud vases
