on my radar: goodies for summer

We just got back from a week at the beach and now, aside from lamenting over the decade we lived right next to the water, I'm so beyond ready for summer!  I definitely don't believe you need to live by the water in order to reflect one's love of the sea in your home - especially if you pick elegant furnishings and accessories that are anything but kitschy, so I've rounded up a bunch of goodies I'm loving lately that definitely fit that bill!  From a natural bistro counter stool that gives me heart palpitations and the extra large version of the Atlantis clam shell I already have (this one is a MONSTER!) to gold leafed chain book ends that I'm completely OBSESSED with and a white lacquer and raffia coffee table that is bananas, any of these picks would bring a bit of a beach vibe to any style decor:

Riviera Counter Stool in Natural / Gold leaf chain link book ends / Extra large Atlantis clam shell /

Marble wine holder / Rattan ice bucket / Gold bamboo mirror / Bone tray / Brass knot bottle opener /

Link pitcher / Shell cheese knives / Cabot square coffee table

What are you loving lately for warmer months??

3 etsy artists i'm loving lately

Sorry for the silence on the blog last week - the hubby had the last two weeks off so we took the opportunity to high tail it to the beach and soak up some much-needed family time! It was hard sending him back off to work again this morning, but I'm super excited to be back to blogging and I have a TON of stuff to share with you guys!  We made some serious headway in the nursery, had a new table and benches made for our deck and knocked out a bunch of small DIY's with major bang for your crafty buck!  Right now, though, I wanted to share three extremely talented artists whose pieces are bright and beautiful reminders of our time spent by the sea these last two weeks!

I've never been one to gravitate toward overly feminine fabrics, art or design in general, but I am seriously crushing on these three Etsy artists recently who happen to nail that girly girl aesthetic  in gorgeous, watery pastels and lovely, moody blues.  The best part is that all of their prints are available in many different sizes and they are super affordable!  So, if you've been wanting to get started on a collection of your own, are just one who appreciates a beautiful piece, or are looking for a gift for your favorite girlfriend, here are three artists to check out now!

Hayley Mitchell Art

I'm obsessed with the colors in her Sunner print and her Moth series is equally amazing!

Kristine Brookshire

Gorgeous watercolor nudes and beach scenes in the prettiest pastel shades!  Any one of these would be a beautiful addition to a bathroom:

Female Figure

Lady Coral

Female Figure in Acrylic

Clare Elsaesser

Clare needs no introduction here; I've posted her work on the blog many times and I still love her female silhoettes in the sea as much now as when I first laid eyes on them!  Any one of these would look absolutely amazing on a large scale for some serious drama in a bedroom or bathroom!

Married to the Sea

At Sunset

Summer Girl

Who are some Etsy artists you're loving lately?  I'm always on the lookout for new favorites!

Happy Hump Day!

summer scents

I hope you all had a wonderful 4th!  I picked up a new candle over the weekend and have been burning it nonstop, as it reminds me of lazy days spent on the beach, so I thought it would be fun to share some other summer scents I'm loving lately!  I love to layer beautifully scented candles all over the house, rather than sticking to one scent throughout, and I especially love to change them out with the seasons. Sea salt is a particular favorite to burn this time of year, but I'm also loving crisp, light and fresh floral scents with a little coconut mixed in, reminding me of when we used to live five minutes from the beach.  Here are some beautiful scents that evoke endless summer days and will have your whole house smelling like the sea:

Jo Malone Wood Sage + Sea Salt / Volcano by Capri Blue / Tubereuse by Diptyque

Votivo White Ocean Sands / Henri Bendel Boho Beach

matt albiani

I'm still in denial that August is rapidly coming to a close, so, in the lingering spirit of the summer, I thought I'd share one of my favorite sea-inspired house tours featured in Domino a few years back.  Do you guys remember photographer Matt Albiani's New York City apartment and Hamptons retreat?  If you were a fan of the magazine, how could you forget?!  Next to Ruthie Sommers California beach bungalow (which launched a nationwide obsession with Benjamin Moore's Soot paint), it was one of my favorites!  With a love for all things sea-inspired, Albiani created a refined living space in his West Village apartment with understated nautical touches and then went all out in his Hamptons summer rental decorating it with a treasure trove of maritime relics he collected over the years. There is a decidedly nautical East Coast influence present in both spaces and it's perfection:

Muted gray walls, a distressed mantle and a mix of antiques create a warm, cozy feel in his apartment's living area; love how he paired antlers with a cowhide rug and

A nuetral color palette is warm and elegant in the tiny space:

A floor-to-ceiling gallery wall filled with a mix of Albiani's photography is a dramatic focal point, thanks to a deep, dark accent wall:

A wooden oar, a vintage seascape and a blue and white stripe pillow add a subtle nautical touch:

White shiplap walls are a beautiful backdrop for blue, black and silver accents and lovely vintage oil paintings of the sea:

A collection of sea treasures takes pride of place on bookshelves:

The entry of his Hamptons retreat is light and bright; the sea captain painting and vintage flag evoke a bit of the Americana and give a hint of what is to come in the rest of the bungalow:

Albiani makes kitschy look cool, thanks to vintage paintings, seashells, glass bottles sea life pillows:

What a gorgeous space for entertaining:

Albiani brought his East Coast sensibility to the West Coast when he opened Mate Gallery, a Montecito shop specializing in seafaring style where every item sold in the shop has a story to tell.  Vintage nautical flags, old nautical paint-by-number scenes, Hardy Boys books, throws, beach blankets and surfer tees share space with Albiani's professional photographs of beach scenes.
